The city of Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum, is the capital of Kerala and the headquarters of the Thiruvananthapuram District. The Etymology of the city's name can be broken down in Malayalam as, Thiru (signification of respect) Anantha-Puram (signifying, Place of Lord Anantha). Referred to by Mahatma Gandhi as the "evergreen city of India", the city is characterized by its undulating terrain of low coastal hills and busy commercial alleys. Ponmudi Hill Resorts (80 Km), Kanyakumari (95 Km), Thenmala Eco-tourism (100 Km), Kuttalam water falls (120 Km), Thekkady (300 Km), Munnar Hill Resorts (300 Km) etc. are attractive tourist spots near Trivandrum.
